Building a Legacy of Service, Leadership, and Mentorship
I was honoured to work with a fantastic team of hardworking, accomplished individuals who were a pleasure to work with and who share the core value of striving to be the best advisors they can be to every client in every interaction. I have particularly enjoyed seeing former co-op students become partners.
A Bit About My Journey
I co-founded Hendry Warren LLP, now known as HW Partners, with Dan Warren in 2002, with a vision to create a client-focused, high-integrity firm that would support Ottawa’s business owners and entrepreneurs. My professional journey began after graduating from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. I earned my Chartered Accountant designation in 1979 and my TEP (Trust and Estate Practitioner) designation in 2003.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of mentoring dozens of young professionals and watching many of them grow into leadership roles within the firm. In 2018, I was honoured to be named a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, recognizing a career of service and dedication to the profession.
What Matters to Me
At every stage of my career, I’ve believed that the best client relationships are built on trust, clarity, and shared goals. Whether working with entrepreneurs, charities, or family enterprises, I aimed to offer advice that was pragmatic, insightful, and always in the client’s best interest.
Mentorship has also been deeply important to me, as nurturing the next generation of accounting professionals and witnessing their well-deserved success remains one of my proudest accomplishments.
Life Outside the Office
Retirement has allowed me to stay engaged in meaningful ways. I’m proud to continue consulting through Southannan Consulting Corporation, advising clients on governance, corporate structure, and succession planning.
Community involvement has always been a cornerstone of my life. I am the past Board Chair of Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice and a past Chair of the CHEO Foundation. I’ve also served as a member and past-President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa. Outside of my professional and volunteer work, I enjoy spending time with family and contributing wherever I can to causes that strengthen our community.
