Strategy, Service, and a Little Rock and Roll
If I’d had my way back in the day, I might have ended up a rock star. But once I took my first accounting course at Dalhousie, I was hooked. There’s a rhythm to the work, problem-solving, logic, and clarity that felt natural to me. Math has always come easily, and helping people solve challenges through numbers has been a constant source of motivation and pride.
A Bit About My Journey
I obtained my BComm in 1989 and my CA designation in 1992. I began working with Ian Hendry and Dan Warren in 1993, and after five years as a CFO in the high-tech sector, I returned to public practice by joining what is now known as HW Partners in 2004. I became a Partner in 2007. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that what truly sets great firms apart is service: being accessible, being responsive, and always making the time to listen. Especially when working with entrepreneurs, that flexibility and understanding go a long way.
What Matters to Me
Client service is personal. It means being available when my clients need me most and tailoring our approach to suit their busy lives and unique business challenges. I collaborate closely with other advisors and professionals to help create the best possible outcomes.
Another passion of mine is mentoring. I’ve taken an active role in our recruiting, training, and HR strategy at HW Partners. Helping our young professionals build meaningful careers and grow into leadership roles is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
Life Outside the Office
Outside of work, I continue to lean into my creative side. I have a lifelong love of music, and I believe that creative expression enriches both my personal and professional life. I also serve as Treasurer for the Ottawa School of Art, which allows me to stay engaged in the arts community and give back to a cause I truly believe in.
